Been playing around with it navigating my mouse cursor. It's incredible. It greatly reduces the chances of a side swipe when a car tries to exit from the inside lane.

I think I hit one of these every day. The shape in the center is almost round but the lanes work the same way.

Me too! I think it is more efficient... when people know how to drive on it. There is a surprisingly high number of people in my town who have no clue how to navigate a roundabout - I often see people stop at each entry to let people in.

That's bloody brilliant. I wish there were more roundabouts in the US. American drivers, however, have absolutely no idea what to do. This would be a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

Yeah, totally. People don't get it around me either.
On one hand it's more efficient, but where it is (right next to where I work) I feel like a standard stoplight might be better. I usually have to wait for about 20 cars before I can get into the lane I need to. Plus, if there's a scaredy-cat in front of me, it will take forever. Roundabout isn't always the best option. There is one a couple miles up the freeway that works like a charm, though. Nobody has to stop after coming off the exit.

So this would be used where there is a lot of traffic going from bottom to top/top to bottom correct? It looks like it basically just gives those directions their own lanes to drive straight through,

I see many of these in real life. They're great when you know where you're going and incredibly annoying when you don't.

Looks more like a rotary to me. But I've been drinking.

Reminds me of the Rotary Roundabout.

I play Simcity 4 a lot, and here's video of this type of roundabout performing in SC4. Sadly, it's in development for the next version of the Network Addon Mod.

Where my parents live they just put in these roundabouts that look like this -
The problem is, there's like 3 or 4 sets of them that run all the way up that street, and not one of them is uniform to the other. They're all different. I've almost gotten sideswiped multiple times by people exiting from the left lane on one, when you're only supposed to exit on the right. I've seen people literally going the wrong way on them because they're confused. It's ridiculous, and it's damn dangerous too. The mayor here has gone roundabout crazy and, while I do like them, people need to read how to use them at the very least. Or at least follow the mother fucking lines painted on the fucking things, jesus.

Brilliant.

We have them in Whatcom County, WA. (Bellingham/Lynden/Everson). Yeah, Americans aren't actually the problem with roundabouts here. It's the Canadians. Either they: a) stop b) go the wrong way (i've seen that twice) c) change lanes in the roundabout. It drives me mad. I now avoid roundabouts unless it's like 3am, there's no one on the roads, and I feel like taking a very aggressive line.

They tried one very very similar to this at Hillsborough St and Pullen Rd in Raleigh, NC...at NC State University. It was an unmitigated disaster due to idiot driver who simply could not comprehend two lanes...it was reconfigured.
I love roundabouts...preferring them to four way stops (where excessively polite drivers refuse to take their right-of-way) and traffic signals.

The only problem is it seems to lack the ability to easily go round and round when you are trying to figure out the correct direction, which is one of my favorite attributes of the roundabout.
I've been trying to convince my buddies to get together and all pile into this local roundabout and just go round and round without letting anyone in.

I feel like taking a very aggressive line
Which is often the best part of driving a roundabout!
